Breaking The Silence
Breaking the Silence is a performance art demonstrating the vulnerability of the human spirit. Sarah McDaniel wanted to showcase the moments of “Freeze” during the Fight or Flight responses. She used this research as her own therapy to help her journey towards recovery. Sarah McDaniel broke her own silence about her brother, Ryan McDaniel, raping her at age 8. This performance gives the viewer the chance to witness the human strength of overcoming years of abuse and trauma. She also invites the audience to write their own testimonies on her or on the mattress as a way of speaking out for themselves.
