Art has always been my way of communicating the beauty I see in the world. Around three years ago I was graduating from Old Dominion University, and was finishing my undergrad chapter. I was terrified of what the next steps would be after undergrad career, but also extremally excited for the next chapter in my life. Art has always been my calling, regardless of the material. In undergrad I used Art to communicate my journey through my childhood trauma; and help others be able to relate to the strength and chapters of life. I graduated undergrad with a degree in Metalsmithing & Clinical Psychology, and I was unsure of what I would do with these degrees. I wanted to be able to bring both of my passions together to create an experience that will change peoples lives. Because art has the power to do that, and it continues to change my life as well.
When I look back at my life, I am still overwhelmed with emotion of how much art has saved my life. When I was 8 years old I was raped by my brother, and for years the assaults continued. It took me over ten years to understand what happened, and countless other years in therapy to conquer my trauma. Art is my way of communicating the emotions and stories I experience in life. One of the most empowering moments of my younger career was being invited to talk with Congress and Senate about my research in childhood trauma. The Nervous System was my first piece to be placed in the Smithsonian, and to travel around the nation. From then on I made it my mission to change how people see themselves, and help others reclaim their strength. Because we all need to be reminded how strong we are.
